Roachdale Christian Church

History of Roachdale Christian Church

On a frosty April morning in 1888 a group of people gathered to formally organize Roachdale Christian Church.  Many charter members are recorded in the church history.  Seven new believers were baptized into Christ that day at the creek despite the cool temperatures.

A Christian church has been in Roachdale since that time.  Like any church it had its ups and downs. The one constant is that it has always attempted to follow the leading of God and the preaching of the good news of Jesus Christ.

The building in which the church meets has gone through many changes.  Property was acquired by the giving of one and the purchase of the other. The One Hundred Dollars spent to purchase the lot appears to be well spent! The first building was built in 1892. Shortly after the building was completed the first Sunday school was started.  That building served until 1924 when it was torn down. In November of 1924 the new building was dedicated. It still stands, but has been added on to in the mid 1950’s and in the mid 1990’s.

The ministry of the church carries on locally as well as globally. From the still active Sunday school to the active Sunday evening youth groups to the Prime Timers for seniors the church seeks to reach all ages.

The mission budget has grown over the years as well.  Now it is a regular occurrence for some of our members to travel overseas to serve and encourage.

The church always stands at the edge of a new opportunity created by God.  As with all who have gone before, the current church must have the eyes to see that opportunity and move with the direction of God to use that opportunity for ministry.
